Norris coming on strong for Astros
San Marin High grad Bud Norris, called up to the Houston Astros earlier this summer, has experienced some highs and lows in his short major-league career; but it has been high times recently.
Norris posted a 3-0 record, then had some control problems and dipped to 3-3. He has looked strong in his last three outings, improving to 5-3.
He pitched six solid innings against Philadelphia, striking out six, allowing two earned runs, to get his fourth win, then tossed another six innings against Pittsburgh, striking out seven and allowing just one earned run to get to 5-3.
In his last trip to the mound Friday, he went five innings, striking out eight, and left with a 2-1 lead but the bullpen had problems and Milwaukie won, 3-2.
“He’s attacking the zone again,” said Houston manager Cecil Cooper. “He has been pitching very, very good.” Norris will probably get three more starts before the end of the season.
