Maldonado crowned OLL Queen

The Hispanic Community Board of Our Lady of Loretto Catholic Church crowned Senorita Zayda Maldonado Queen of the Hispanic Catholic Community. She will represent them at all church events for 2009-2010. She represented the Hispanic Prayer Group in the coronation competition. She will ride in the Virgin de Guadalupe Parade down Grant Avenue on Dec. 12 and the 4th of July Parade, among others. The crowning took place Oct. 25. Maldonado was one of five candidates that included Daisy Rodriguez, representing the Christian Family Movement; Genevieve Salendres, representing the Board of Directors; Elida Abrego, representing the Youth for Christ group, and Laura Gonzalez, representing the Hispanic choir group. The Hispanic Community Board raises funds for OLL stained-glass window restoration and supports an orphanage in Morelia, Michoacan, Mexico. The new queen thanked her parents for their support during the activities leading up to the coronation.

Newspapers generally don't state race in crime reporting, unless the story includes a description of a wanted criminal. What do you think about it?
That's proper, because giving a suspect's race could lead to stereotyping. Race has nothing to do with it.
Newspapers should list a suspect's race. If race isn't a factor in crime, then why not state it? A fact is a fact. Let the readers form their own opinions.
I don't care one way or the other.
